Corso Corso Information needed for the first time buyer. The Cane Corso is a breed that is becoming popular way to fast now
a days and every breeder cuts every other breeders throat. When we set out to buy our first cane corso we met up with another
family and we searched together, we were lucky to have had this opportunity to put our heads together as this helped sort
through all the false information to find the truths within this great breed.
We will share with you some of our experience's who we contacted, some of that feed back, buyers we met along the way
their feed back, some of the mis information traveling around the great wide web about certain breeders and certain dogs,
and of course in the end we will share who we bought from and how we feel about our dog and breeder today being almost 2 years
as owners for us and almost 1 year as owners for our new friends.
As we started our search we contacted 10 breeders each, this was a bit difficult then but now we see hundreds online and
hundreds more selling from the backyard. Some of the first breeders we contacted were.
Belmonte, Stonecroft, Alcor, Colliseum shadows, Sleeping giant, Scandifio, Potenza Bella, Millreef, Nuba Moloser, Rustic,
Dynasty, Tanzerella, Morgan, Montegaurdie,21stguardians, Blusteel, Zhargis, Degli Elmi, Maximus, and Carfanga.
I will narrow down who we first check off as not having any pups at that time or litters upcoming with what we were seeking
Maximus (went out of business) and Millreef( changing stock and no litters), Sleeping giant ( importing semen from a kennel
we already decided no on) Degli elmi ( refused to sell us a pup!).
After speaking with we either found rude, un educated in raising and breeding or no real customer skills to be selling
anything, and this was important to us since we needed a breeder who would help us along the way if we ever needed them for
tips or if a problem was to arise. They to were checked off our list Nuba Moloser ( poor customer skills and no real dog knowledge
we felt), Zhargis ( seemed nutty and now we are happy we never selected them.), Collisium Shadows ( bad feeling),Alcor ( bad
feeling),21stguardians ( poor communication skills, lack of compassion for buyers and dogs it seemed, and no real direction),
Tanzerella ( far to many dogs, we would call commercial breeders and many health problems we fund from past buyers with this
bloodline), Morgan ( same line as tanzerella using the same stud dog known as Simon many refer to as a mastiff cross boxer
and known for many problems within Italy as nervous temperaments, cherry eyes, epilepsy, heart disease, many breeders are
imported this bloodline outside of italy and many have already removed this from the breeding program around the world today).
See 4 heads are better then 1!
So now we were down to only a few that pasted the first 2 basic requirements availability, and customer skills. Now we
had the real work to start we had to visit, get references and past buyers, look at pedigrees and see what has been producing
healthy 1st priority, friendly, quality cane corso's. We were very aware of the backstabbing that goes on with a breed and
each breeder will turn on the other at the drop of a dime, we were taking by this behavior at first but then realized this
is a very competitive business to be in. So we quickly figured out how to deal with the breeders and avoid the back stabbing
as much as possible.
Next was Visit's if possible. We went to Belmonte, Stonecroft, Scandifio, Potenza Bella, Blusteel and Dynasty.
We enjoyed our visit with Belmonte but felt they had far to many dogs to have a real sense of each dogs good and bad traits
so we removed them from our list, however they have nice dogs and are great people.
Scandifio we felt the same about but were not as pleased by their dogs presence as we were belmonte's. we removed Scandifio
also from our list.
Blusteel we felt were nice people that were sold not so nice dogs but they did show they love their dogs regardless of
their quality. We removed them since they also did not display the greatest in movement and we were concerned about future
problems with joints.
Dynasty far to many dogs in crowded conditions, dogs lacking general care and most were non approachable and rather thin
with poorly groomed nails. We removed them from our list as we strongly felt they were breeding for profit as you could sense
we were not really welcomed to just visit the facilities and ask questions about the dogs and direction of their program.
Potenza Bella, again removed for lack of care and crowed conditions, we felt these people love their dogs but most dogs
were extremely thin possibly emaciated, shy, coats were in terrible shape, and property was not very clean.
Stonecroft we liked them and their dog, property was clean, dogs we well cared for and in good conditions, this was the
only breeder we visited that we were happy with the conditions. We moved stonecroft to the next level of our search.
Now the breeders we could not visit we asked for references and started calling past buyers to see how their experience
went, we were hoping to contact buyers who had a chance to visit these kennels we could not visit.
Monte Guardie sent us many nice emails and photographs of puppies they sent to various places outside of Italy but when
we asked for past buyer information we never heard back so obviously they were removed from our list.
We were sent some emails and phone numbers from Rustic kennels and all but one we contacted successfully, all the past
owners had good things to say, they stated her customer skills we good, her property was set up very nice for the dogs with
large kennel areas and the dogs were friendly and healthy looking. We also requested a video so we could see the dogs running
and playing at her pond and with their children. We were happy with what we saw and left them on our list.
We were given a few contacts for Stonecroft and also had good positive fedback, we had seen her dogs and were happy with
what we saw.
We also spoke with a few past buyers from Carfanga and found them to also be happy with their pups and would buy again
from the same breeder if they were to add another.
So our list was now narrowed down to 3 breeders, stonecroft, rustic and carfagna.
Well do you wanna know who we went with? I bet you do. My new friends went with Stonecroft and we went with Belmonte.
What about the other 2 breeders left on the list? Well carfagna did not have the litters at his home and we did not like the
idea that they were being passed around and rustic was so far away in Canada that we would of liked a dog from them but felt
we needed to buy one within the USA. We also seen many people slander and talk poorly about this breeder and since we could
not visit we were to be honest a little leary.
We went with Belmonte since we liked them, found them knowledgeable about the breed and liked the dogs, the only thing
we were not excited about as we stated earlier was the amount of dogs, but realized if that was all we found wrong and how
fast we eliminated all the other breeders we started with then that was not bad at all.
Updates March 17,2004, Our belmonte pup is doing great she is real big 100plus pounds, great with everyone, healthy no
problems at all, she was easily trained and we look forward to adding another some day.
Our friends pup from stonecroft is a real sweet girl but was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia at only 7months old,
she is on pain medication and doing well. Hopefully she will live normal and not need any surgery the bad part of this is
we since found out that the father, his mother and father all have the same disorder as her.We also found that many and we
mean many breeders are using this same father dog just to try and get his colour and boxer like face as this has become a
big new trend in the breed in 2004.
We will again update in the end of 2004
Happy searching
